Is it a Good Idea to use a Nose Clip?
- Advantages of the Nose Clip
- In my thirties, I rediscovered swimming as an adult.
- Apart from the mandatory swimsuit, swim goggles, and swim cap, a nose clip was the first accessory I purchased for swimming.
- It was a great tool that I used extensively, and I finally got rid of it after a year of swimming.
- Let’s take a look at some of the benefits that a swimming nose clip can bring:
- 1) Front crawling prevents water from entering your nose when your head is turned to breathe.
- You only need to concentrate on your mouth when you breathe.
2) If you are unable to balance, or if the recovering arm projects water in your face, you can learn backstroke.
You may need to perform body undulations or dolphin kicks on your back in order to improve your butterfly stroke.
It may be nearly impossible to keep water from your nose without a clip.
4) Learning the flip turn allows you to quickly learn the correct flip motion without having to worry about your breathing.
You can also remove the clip later and practice proper exhalation during the flip.
5) If you are allergic to chemicals in the pool (e.g. chlorine), a clip might be the solution. A clip may be the best way to keep chemicals out of your nose, if you are allergic to pool chemicals (e.g. chlorine).
Disadvantages
A skilled swimmer will not use a swimming nose clip, except in cases of allergy or for exercises that require it.
1) The nose is closed, which makes breathing less efficient and reduces the overall water efficiency.
2) A nose plug will make you more likely to hold your breath.
Avoid holding your breath. It is better to inhale continuously into the water. This keeps the body more relaxed, and makes the stroke fluid.
3) Water could get trapped in the nose, causing snot that cannot be eliminated.
